Westway's great facilities mean we often get featured on TV and in the media but it was our street-level links that Electronic Arts were more interested in when scouring the globe for venues to be featured in recent games launch FIFAStreet2. So while most media events at Westway take place on our six third generation artificial grass pitches, its the tarmac and concrete of Pitch 7, our netball court and our only part-time tarmac 5-a-side pitch, just outside the front of the Sports Centre, which you'll see featured in the new video game - alongside venues in Amsterdam, Cameroon, Barra Beach Brazil, Mexico City, Berlin, Marseille, Rome and New York. Meanwhile you'll also have seen Thierry Henry playing at Westway recently. Yes, you heard me right, I did say Thierry Henry ...though its on TV you'll see him at Westway THIS WEEK, as it was back in January when the Thierry Henry film The film featuring Thierry demonstrating his skills and outwitting a team of other players, after a few tips from Eric Cantona, was shot on our now globally famous Pitch 7 - yes that old tarmac netball court featured in FIFAStreet2 again! Westway went into an early lead with a magnificent solo effort from Jacob Lord-Garnett. Peel got back into the game with an equaliser soon after. Primrose Hill made the most of two opportunities in the first half and Westway were two nil down early on. A goal just before half time from man of the match Robbie Lopez made it 2-1 and brought Westway back into the game. After a few changes at half time Westway drew level with a second goal from Robbie Lopez as a large crowd wondered if the comeback was possible. It was. Robbie Lopez then scored his third of the evening to cap his man of the match performance as the watching crowd erupted. The comeback was complete. Westway under 9's played their first ever game on Friday 9th September at Market Road against Isledon Wolves. The game was very entertaining to watch with Westway retaining possession for long periods. Westway's Jacob Lord-Garnett opened the scoring with his first of the evening, before Westway scored a second from a terrific solo effort by Tayshan Hayden-Smith. Lord-Garnett then scored his second and Westway's third to make it 3-0 at half time. Late in the second half, Jack Sullivan broke away from the Isledon defence to make it 4 nil with a classic counter attacking goal. |
